17 Lost Egyptian Pyramids Found From Space

Researchers at the University of Alabama at Birmingham have located seventeen lost pyramids, 1,000 tombs and more than 3,000 ancient settlements in Egypt after studying images produced by a state-of-the-art infrared technique that allowed them to clearly see the ruins underground.

With two pyramids already confirmed by scientists, they believe there are thousands more unknown sites in the region.

“I could see the data as it was emerging, but for me the ‘a-ha’ moment was when I could step back and look at everything that we’d found,” Dr. Sarah Parcack, who led the survey, told the BBC. “I couldn’t believe we could locate so many sites all over Egypt.”

AT&T offers iPhone users 1,000 free minutes to stop switching

It looks like AT&T is going all out to stop people from switching to Verizon, as the carrier is offering some iPhone users 1,000 free minutes on credit.

According to 9to5Mac, some AT&T iPhone users are receiving text messages which say users can get 1,000 bonus rollover minutes at no cost. You simply have to reply “YES” by the end of march and your account is filled with free minutes.

This is obviously a move by AT&T to stop users from switching over to the Verizon iPhone. The Apple smartphone on Big Red sold out its preorder stock in just a few hours but the launch day was relatively subdued for an iPhone launch – even if it was a launch of a 7-month old phone on a new carrier.

This is just the latest move by AT&T to appease its iPhone owners, as it recently offered some users a free microCell to boost in-door coverage using the consumer’s broadband connection. Many users have told me that they wish AT&T would have done more to make sure its iPhone users were satisfied before they actually had a choice of another carrier.

Still, despite what Jon Stewart says about the Verizon iPhone, AT&T’s service isn’t as bad as many like to make it out to be. Sure, it’s absolute garbage in places like San Francisco and New York (where most of the tech press resides) but much of the rest of the country gets solid voice and data coverage.

Additionally, many AT&T iPhone customers are in the middle of a contract and when you factor in the early-termination fees, it’s quite expensive to hop over to Verizon. We’re also expecting Apple to show off a new smartphone this summer too and there’s no guarantee that it will land on Verizon this summer.

DISH Turns iPad Into TV Viewer And Remote Control

The DirecTV and DISH Network battle is becoming more heated by the month. Not only are the two competing hard on price and content, but now DISH has another reason to choose their services. Well, if you own an iPad. The pay-TV provider has announced today that DISH Remote Access, the free application that gives DISH Network customers the ability to watch their live and recorded TV on compatible smartphones, tablets and laptops, is now available for the iPad.

That means that you’ll be able to watch live DISH TV content on the iPad, for free. To enjoy live and recorded TV viewing on the iPad, DISH Network customers must have a broadband-connected, Sling-enabled device such as the Sling Adapter – a small placeshifting device that pairs with DISH Network’s ViP 722 or 722k HDDVRs. So that’s definitely another hardware purchase, but if you already own one, even better.

In addition to TV viewing, the DISH Remote Access app also gives DISH Network customers with compatible DVRs the ability to browse and search up to nine days of programming, schedule DVR recordings, manage conflicts, delete shows on multiple receivers, and transform the iPad into a fully-functioning remote control. Not bad at all, and definitely something to make you consider DISH if you haven’t before.(Read more)
